Idaho Springs Colorado Off
Popular fishing destination. One spur goes to Chinns Lake and Sherwin Lake, another to larger Fall River Reservoir. Great camping around Chinns Lake. ATVs are allowed on entire road. No parking at start; recommend unloading at 1.9 miles. Mostly easy with a few moderate sections of embedded rock. Suitable for stock, highclearance 4WD sport utility vehicles.
View Guide
Chinns Lake was pretty and pretty remote although we drove up on a Saturday and there were a number of people milling about. I imagine it's beautiful at sunrise and sunset for you photo phans but it was hot and dry midday. There was an abandoned dilapidated boat house of some sort in one section of the lake which made for some interesting memory shots but nothing to publish. In 4wd we were able to drive to the lake. Saw a few wild columbines but not much flora to rave about. It's rather remote and I wouldn't take my car up this road. That's just me though, some might.
